The symbols (well more specifically, the line things) are also used in the I-Ching, a Chinese method of fortune telling or something like that. Very cool post! And yes, I did delete that stupid annoying message!

Hmm that is interesting. I've heard some interesting ideas on what the symbol might be broken down. The arrow is a good idea too...hmmm

I found the eight trigrams fascinating and went on the web to research.  First of all I realized I was reading the bars and dashes incorrect- from the inside out... as if I was in the middle looking outward.  Instead, I found on http://mikeliem.tripod.com/combat/yinyang.html that they are viewed from outside toward the center.  So, for example the top left corner is 2 long lines on top with the dashed on the bottom., so it is the symbol for SUN/HSUN which is the grass or wind.  I also learned this whole thing is part of the Korean flag.   I found more associations with the individual symbols at: http://www.ichingwisdom.com/IChingWisdom/trigrams.html .  For example, the KUN symbol (3 rows of dashes) not only means earth, but will, receptive motivation, yin  feeling.  It also indicates west on a compass.  Anyway, it sure gives a lot of food for thought.
