Wow...Why did they put this book in there?  Hmmm....

This entry will focus on two books/manuscripts we saw.  Once again, this will turn into a lengthy entry, but stay with me.

1.  An Occurance at Owl Creek Bridge

This is the book Locke had in the hatch.  I read this story years ago in college, and it has a very interesting ending...especially put into the perspective of the Lost survivors.  Here's a short excerp of the beginning (http://www.bookrags.com/studyguide-owlcreekbridge/sum.html)

"Upon a railroad bridge in Alabama, a man is waiting to be hanged. His hands are tied behind his back, and a rope encircles his neck. He stands upon a platform constructed of loose boards. Members of the Federal Army—the Union Army during the Civil War—are also on the bridge. Some are completing the preparations and some are guarding the bridge. The man about to be hanged, Peyton Farquhar, is a civilian.

On one side of the stream is a forest, on the other a fort. Halfway between the bridge and the fort stand a line of soldiers, all armed. When the soldiers finish their preparations, they move off of the bridge. A sergeant stands at the opposite end of the same board as Farquhar. At the signal from his captain, he will step off the board. The board will tilt down, and Farquhar will fall through the railway ties.

Farquhar closes his eyes to think of his family but he is distracted by a sharp, rhythmic sound."

I'll leave out most of the details, but basically, Farquhar is about to be hung but somehow manages to escape.  He swims through rivers, runs through the forest, etc.  But here's the interesting part of that story...All of a sudden as he has a seering pain in his neck.  The whole thing had been in his imagination.  The "rhythmic sound" was the sound of himself swinging back and forth from the rope.  He is dead.  The whole "escape" had taken place in his head in the last moments of his life while he was hanging.

2. Bad Twin by Gary Troup

This is the manuscript Hurley was reading at the end.  According to http://www.greatlink.org/dcisV2.asp?url=http://www.greatlink.org/shownewsitem.asp?item=5012, "ABC's hit SF series Lost will spin off a book based on a supposed "found manuscript" by a character who didn't survive the crash of Oceanic flight 815, Variety reported. The character, Gary Troup, figures in upcoming episodes of the series.

Troup's supposed novel will be published by ABC sister company Hyperion Books. Hyperion has commissioned a novel by a "well-known" mystery writer—it's not saying who—that supposedly constitutes the book. In the past, ABC/Hyperion hired best-selling mystery novelist Ridley Pearson to ghost-write The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer: My Life at Rose Red, a prequel companion book to the 2002 Stephen King miniseries Rose Red.

Troup's book will be marketed as the work of an author who "delivered [it] to Hyperion just days before [he] boarded Oceanic flight 815."

The novel, Bad Twin, is a private-eye procedural involving a wealthy heir's search for his nefarious brother. It will be released this spring in conjunction with the network's related episodes, the trade paper reported."

Sorry such a long entry...thanks for sticking with me here!

ryc: hahaha, sorry that I left you with that image, hopefully it won't haunt you all day. I also noticed the two books that were shown last night and figured if researched would reveal some extra info.  I didn't see Charlie coming until I realized that Sawyer had to had someone tell him where the guns where.  In some weird way, I really like Sawyer....even though he's so unlikeable! :spinning:  I loved it when he said, "Boys, there's a new sheriff in town"....that just cracked me up!  I can't wait for next week!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I looks like it's going to be a good one! :fun:  :sunny: :)

I'm w/ ya on not seeing Charlie! I like that Sawyer, but he sure is messed up, he seems to really hate himself.  That was quite a con he pulled on Kate, I'm surprised she didn't see through him, I'm shocked that Locke got taken too!

Locke definitly was not alphabetizing the books. He was looking for something, probably more film?

Anybody else think that there were another set of "others" on the island when they said the sack was not the same? The first thing I thought of was Ethan. Then the whole Ana Lucia thing came up and I fell for it. I mean with all the drama concerning her behaviour on the show, it could have been a good way to kill her off.

But that backstory, has to be the best one of this season yet!!!!  Mr. Ecko's would be #2 for me.

I saw Point of Grace on some news channel that they were singing for some congressional thing. Lost was awesome last night...even if my favorite character has now become a jerk...again...it still rocked.

Yeah I was definetly blindsided by the whole Charlie thing!

I did not see Charlie coming either. I wonder if Locke knew Charlie was following him though... no one seems to be able to pull something over on Locke and he knows the way Sawyer is..

Hey Brotha, thanks for the not so good news. I will keep my fingers crossed that they change their minds about killing off Ana Lucia. It was interesting that Hurley and Sayid hear the Glenn Miller band since Glenn Miller disappeared while flying on a transport plane in December 1944.. Hey maybe Glenn is on the Lost island......Good episode last night, can't wait until next week;

Lift it up Brotha

I thought it was so sad the lengths Sawyer would go to just to get people to hate him again.  He must think he doesn't deserve anyone's respect or friendship.  If you think about it, there really was no point to what he did other than to alienate people again.  The past couple of episodes, Kate kept pointing out how people had really started to like him.  :(  Sad...  I can't blame Charlie for his reasons, but I am shocked that Locke got the wool pulled over his eyes.  He's usually so intuitive about everything.  Interesting that Hurley made a comment about being in the past.    Hmmm.  Cool info about the stories.  Thanks!  As always, you rock and I can't wait to read your posts!  :goodjob:

I just saw on lost.cubit.net that Sawyer's girlfriend Cassidy (I thought Sawyer called her Cassie) might be Desmond's girlfriend that was in the picture with him!!!  Looking at the animation one, they do look alike!!!  :spinning: Here's the links to the pictures: http://lost.cubit.net/pics/2x13/cassidy.jpg  http://lost.cubit.net/pics/2x13/cassidyCompare.gif(animation)

It is not Desmonds wife/girlfriend....everyone thought the same thing about Sarah, or the woman on the boat. Every female character on LOST has to be this woman??? I don't think so.

I read that book too.  I thought it was odd to see a book on TV that I had read.  I think we all know the island won't "blow up" if they don't push the button, because that's what all the characters keep saying will happen if they don't push it.  It will be interesting...there's going to be a twist.
